Ever been too sore to check your blind spots when you drive? Or look both ways before you cross the street?
When you're neck is not doing well, it puts everything else at risk.
There's a lot that our necks do to help keep us safe and healthy. We believe your neck deserves the best care.
What's Causing You Neck Pain?
Here are some of the potential causes and what you can do about it.
The Causes Of Neck Pain
Auto accidents and sports injuries are some of the leading causes of neck injuries. But poor posture, too much phone time, etc are also major causes.
Why Does My Neck Hurt?
Whether it’s a sudden injury or a dull ache that has built up over time, neck pain is one of the most common reasons patients visit our St. James clinic. At Sun Chiropractic, we look beyond the surface to find the root cause of your discomfort—blending 30 years of diagnostic wisdom with the latest evidence-based rehab techniques.
Sudden Injuries vs. Everyday Strain
Neck pain generally falls into two categories:
-
Acute Trauma: Common following auto accidents (whiplash), sports injuries, or sudden falls. These require immediate, expert assessment to ensure proper healing and prevent long-term stiffness.
-
The "Micro-Strains" of Modern Life: Most neck pain isn't caused by one single event, but by "repetitive overloading." Think of your neck like a high-performance hinge—it is designed for movement, but constant, static stress eventually leads to fatigue and inflammation.
The Impact of a "Connected" World
In today’s world, our necks are under more pressure than ever. We often treat what we call "Tech Neck" or "Postural Strain" caused by:
-
Prolonged Screen Time: Hours spent looking down at phones or tilted toward monitors.
-
Static Workstations: Poor ergonomic setups that force the neck to support the weight of the head in an unnatural position.
-
Repetitive Habits: Improper sleep positions, heavy lifting, or overhead reaching at work.
Our Approach: Experience Meets Innovation
When you come to Sun Chiropractic, you benefit from a multi-generational team approach. Our senior chiropractors provide the clinical insight gained from treating thousands of neck injuries over three decades, while our newer doctors bring up-to-date protocols in soft-tissue therapy, exercise rehabilitation, and postural correction.
We don't just treat the symptom; we help you "re-wire" your habits and strengthen your body so you can live, work, and sleep without limitations.
Do This If You're Experiencing Neck Pain
Seeking early and appropriate treatment, like the type provided in our office, is critical.
Depending upon the severity of your injury, you may need to limit your activity for a while especially movements or activities that cause pain. Avoid heavy lifting and take frequent breaks from prolonged activity, particularly overhead activity.
Following acute injuries, you can apply ice for 10-15 minutes each hour. Heat may be helpful after several days or for more chronic types of pain. Ask your doctor for specific ice/heat recommendations.
Studies have consistently shown that chiropractic is safe, effective and evidence-based way to deal with many common causes of neck pain. It also has an enviable safety record compared to some other common treatments.
We all live our lives in different ways, but our bodies tell the same stories about the stresses we live with. Our backs hurt because we sit too much.
Our necks ache because we spend hours staring at computer screens. As a result, millions of Canadians suffer from persistent back pain, neck pain, migraines, and headaches.
Persistent neck pain and headaches force you to give up things you love doing. The truth is, pain changes everything. The good news is that the right chiropractic care can change pain.
Our chiropractors are spine, muscle, and nervous system experts. We are trained to diagnose the cause of your pain, recommend treatment options, and help you prevent it from coming back. In a 2009 report, The World Health Organization endorsed chiropractic adjustments as one of the safest and most effective treatments for neck pain.
Without proper treatment, neck pain can have a long-term impact on your health and mobility.
