What's Causing You Neck Pain?
Here are some of the potential causes and what you can do about it.
Neck Pain FAQ: What You Need to Know
Auto accidents and sports injuries are some of the leading causes of neck injuries. But poor posture, too much phone time (tech neck), etc., are also major causes.
-
Can a chiropractor help with tension headaches caused by neck pain? Yes. Headaches can originate from tension or joint dysfunction in the upper neck (cervicogenic headaches). By restoring proper motion to the cervical vertebrae, chiropractic care can reduce the frequency and intensity of these headaches without the need for medication.
-
Is it safe to have my neck adjusted? Chiropractic neck adjustments are remarkably safe when performed by a qualified professional. Our doctors, all graduates of the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC), perform a thorough physical exam and history prior to treatment to ensure that manual therapy is the appropriate and safest course of action for your specific condition.
-
How does "Tech Neck" affect my long-term health? "Tech Neck" occurs when the head is tilted forward for long periods, placing up to 60 lbs of pressure on the cervical spine. Over time, this can lead to early disc degeneration, nerve impingement, and chronic muscle fatigue. We provide specific corrective exercises to reverse these effects and improve your seated posture.
-
What should I do if my neck pain radiates into my arm or hand? If you experience numbness, tingling, or weakness traveling down your arm, it may indicate a pinched nerve. This requires a professional evaluation. Our interprofessional and collaborative approach means we will assess your neurological health and, if necessary, work with your primary care provider to coordinate imaging or further medical consultation.

Depending upon the severity of your injury, you may need to limit your activity for a while especially movements or activities that cause pain. Avoid heavy lifting and take frequent breaks from prolonged activity, particularly overhead activity.
Following acute injuries, you can apply ice for 10-15 minutes each hour. Heat may be helpful after several days or for more chronic types of pain. Ask your doctor for specific ice/heat recommendations.
Studies have consistently shown that chiropractic is safe, effective and evidence-based way to deal with many common causes of neck pain. It also has an enviable safety record compared to some other common treatments.
We all live our lives in different ways, but our bodies tell the same stories about the stresses we live with. Our backs hurt because we sit too much.
Our necks ache because we spend hours staring at computer screens. As a result, millions of Canadians suffer from persistent back pain, neck pain, migraines, and headaches.
Persistent neck pain and headaches force you to give up things you love doing. The truth is, pain changes everything. The good news is that the right chiropractic care can change pain.
Our chiropractors are spine, muscle, and nervous system experts. We are trained to diagnose the cause of your pain, recommend treatment options, and help you prevent it from coming back. In a 2009 report, The World Health Organization endorsed chiropractic adjustments as one of the safest and most effective treatments for neck pain.
Without proper treatment, neck pain can have a long-term impact on your health and mobility.
