When Sydney Baron graduated from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) in June, it marked the beginning of a new career and the start of a new chapter in her family’s professional story.

For her parents, Dr. Kim Castle and Dr. Russell Baron, both long-time chiropractors in Winnipeg, Manitoba and CMCC graduates, watching their daughter step across the stage to collect her diploma sparked pride, gratitude, and reflection on the future of patient care.

Dr. Castle always knew she wanted to work in healthcare. While studying science in university and working part-time as a healthcare aide, a conversation with a nurse during a shift led her to chiropractic. That same nurse later became a patient at Sun Chiropractic, the interprofessional clinic she runs with her husband. In addition, Dr. Castle hopes to contribute to the broader chiropractic profession through her work with the Council on Chiropractic Education-Canada (CCEC), The Women’s Chiropractic Caucus (WCC), The CCA’s Mentorship Program, as well as through ongoing support of CMCC.

For Dr. Baron, the decision to pursue chiropractic came from a series of small but defining moments—academic interests, conversations with a friend attending CMCC, and a desire to help people. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Baron serves as Chair of the CCA’s Board of Directors and as senior chiropractic consultant for Manitoba Public Insurance; he previously served on the Manitoba Chiropractic Association’s standards committee.

Over the last 30 years, they’ve seen the profession gain recognition within the broader healthcare system by embracing more interprofessional collaboration to deliver connected, patient-centered care.

“The need for accessible primary care in Canada is clearer than ever. Watching my daughter step into this work with compassion, curiosity, and a strong sense of purpose makes me incredibly proud,” said Dr. Baron.

For Sydney, the decision to study chiropractic felt like a natural next step, having grown-up in a home where movement and good habits were part of daily life. Family workouts, weekend runs, and conversations about care plans were routine.

While completing her Bachelor of Science, Sydney began working at the front desk of her parents’ clinic. It was there that her interest in chiropractic truly deepened. Watching patients arrive in pain and leave more at ease—not just from treatment, but from feeling heard, supported, and empowered with the right tools—showed her the full impact of her parents’ work.

Patients would leave feeling less scared and anxious about their condition and more reassured that they had the tools to get through it,” said Sydney. “That’s something I look forward to being able to provide my own patients.

Carrying the torch forward at CMCC, Sydney built on that early exposure with rigorous training in anatomy, diagnosis, and evidence-informed care. Now, as she begins to work with patients of her own, she brings the same values she saw modeled at home: treating pain, supporting recovery, and helping people move forward with confidence.

“My parents’ loyalty and dedication to their patients has allowed them to come home, sometimes tired or sore, but always fulfilled in knowing they helped make someone’s life a bit easier that day,” shared Sydney. “I can only hope that I am able to make a difference in my patients’ day-to-day life in the same way.”
